2009 coe game

The 2009 NCAA Division III football playoffs are upon us. On Sunday around 2:10pm the brackets were revealed on ESPNEWS. The committee has decided NOT to place seedings on teams this year, however, one can reasonably surmise that the West Region Bracket looks like this.

Showing Up to the Regular Season Finale…

2009 carleton game

First and foremost, I hope the Carleton Knights show up to the game this week.  They are coming off five straight losses in the MIAC and the schedule on their school site has them playing in St. Joseph, MN on Saturday.
The Knights, led by Johnnie QB legend Kurt Ramler, are having a tough season after [...]

Scouting the Auggies…

2009 augsburg game

Saturday was Halloween.  The Johnnies were on a bye week and the plan was to lounge around watching college football all day in HD and possibly change the channel to the World Series at night.  As I was doing my daily website routine, I checked out the MIAC football schedule for the day.  It was here that [...]

2009 stolaf game

Saturday was an atmosphere that is rarely seen at the Division 3 level.  The stars were definitely aligned for a colossal matchup in Collegeville.  Both teams entered the game undefeated and with sky high expectations for themselves.  Nearly 13 thousand people showed up to witness what was supposed to be the best Tommie squad in years [...]

2009 stthomas game

So I made the executive decision to skip the Johnnies vs Hamline game on Saturday afternoon by instead heading to St. Thomas for a little scouting.  This was just another instance of sacrificing short-term pleasure for the benefit of my loyal readers here at JohnnieFootball.com.  I kid.  I kid.

The day got off to a rousing [...]

2009 hamline game

I am writing this week exhausted from the incredible sports weekend in the Twin Cities.  Saturday the Gophers predictably fell to the Badgers for the umpteenth time and the Johnnies made a valiant comeback to shock the Royals in Collegeville.  Sunday the Twins thrilled the 51 thousand at the Dome and those tuned in on [...]

The Time for Redemption is Now…

2009 bethel game

Let’s cut to the chase.  Bethel has beaten the Johnnies 3 years in a row.  The last 2 years in Arden Hills and in 2006 their first win ever in Collegeville.  The mystique is gone.  The Royals have developed a gameplan that is effective, and quite simply, works against SJU.  This is what great rivalries [...]

Week 4: St. Peter and Patrick’s

2009 gustavus game

Week 4 against Gustavus has the makings for a letdown game for the Johnnies.  They come off a long road trip to Moorhead that was successful, but did NOT shorten the injury report for St. John’s.  This would be an easy game to overlook when you can see a potentially huge Homecoming game with Bethel [...]

2009 concordia game

Each year when the Johnnies play the Cobbers I get nervous.  I am thankful that the Johnnies were scheduled to make the trip to Jake Christensen Stadium in mid-September instead of mid-November when the cold wind howls across the flat prairie and the natural grass field has seen better days.  All signs point to more of this fantastic mild [...]

Yesterday’s 28-24 comeback win at Wisconsin-River Falls to open the season was a good (good not great) start.  The team wasn’t great, but we’ve come to expect that early in the season.  If you are looking for the bread and butter statistics head here.  Also don’t forget to follow JohnnieFootball.com Feature Writer Finsleft on Twitter.  [...]
