Just as we did for the trip to Northfield two weeks ago, here is the information for the away-from-Collegeville tailgate. Unlike the ‘Festivities for St. Olaf, however, this week’s celebration will take the chilly weather into account and be indoors. Please read on for details, lest you miss out on a chance to party before the biggest game of the year.

The Traveling Stifungsfestivities will be indoors this weekend in downtown Northfield on Saturday, Nov. 15 before the Carleton contest. The place is called Grundy’s Rueb ‘N’ Stein, 503 Division Street South, Northfield, MN 55057; 507-645-4405. The esteemed Theo Wick called the establishment and reserved the back room for all SJU-CSB alums who choose to “fire up” for what will be the most important game of this topsy-turvy season. Grundy’s opens at 11 a.m.; the game’s at 1 p.m. — please plan accordingly.

Directions

Head into Northfield on Highway 19. It becomes 5th Street West upon entering the city. Continue straight on 5th Street across the railroad tracks, across the river, and into downtown. The second intersection across the river is Division Street. Grundy’s is in the building on the southeast corner of the intersection of 5th and Division. There is ample parking on both streets and in a lot off 5th just east of Division.

An additional note from Da Wick:

According to the SJUer Restaurant/Pub owner/manager list that Thom [Woodward] and I are compiling, an ‘87 grad by the name of John Langan is managing [Grundy's]. I hope to confirm that. I told them that we could have 20-25 but I’d love to pack the place with 50 or more.

There you have it folks. The biggest game of 2008 (have we stressed that enough?) takes place in Northfield on Saturday. Carleton hasn’t beaten the Johnnies…ever. Show up in droves to help the boys make sure it stays that way.
