The Gameday Routine

A few people have come up to me recently and asked what its like behind the scenes and before the first coin flip. It really starts on Friday night when some of the guys go to Damien and Patty Dumonceaux’s for a meal and some video games. Rock Band is still the favorite game and this last week Noel Meyer and Dan Franta had a “sing-off.” No winner was crownded but both did excellent. My roommates and I like to go to church on Saturday. Its not mandatory, but a good number of guys attend Fr. Timo’s service. After that its off to the “Reef” for breakfast. Living off campus makes it tough becasue you can’t go back home before we need to get dressed so some stay in the “Reef” longer, some visit underclassmen in the dorms, or like Mike Schumacher and I did, we headed to the training room to ESPN’s College Gameday. Most people come and go through the training room and stop to watch the show for a little bit. Most people in the training room are getting treatment for injuries, or they are getting their ankles tapped. The Soccer and Cross Country teams stop by to offer their words of luck after their morning practices. After Lee Corso gives his winning predictions and puts on the mascot head, its time to get ready for the game. When everyone gets dressed, we move to the Palestra. Here I roll pretty much everyone’s sleeves up into their pads so the jerseys look nice. Jim Platten applies the final uniform touch by adding eye-black to players’ faces. After a quick Our Father, we hit the field for warm-ups.
