And a Mile

2010 hamline game

Flashback- 2009 Johnnie/Piper game (and I use that term very loosely b/c does Hamline really even field a Team) and a 4th down and long yardage situation for the Johnnies.
The Pipe P.A. Announcer (who apparently could not even get a gig announcing games at Gallaudet University) calmly states for all to hear “its 4th and [...]

This week the Johnnie Nation makes the return trip to Northfield as the 2010 edition of the Johnnies battles the Oles.  And while I count an Ole as one of my best friends I still feel warranted in giving him, and all that is St. Olaf, grief.
Grief over their Football Program (both the actual team [...]

2010 carleton game

Author’s Note: Interesting how those smart guys down at Carleton were able to get their flooded field into playable conditions for one final home game…. That game being against the Johnnies. Things that make your go “mmmm”.
This line was famously used by Michael Corleone when speaking to his brother “Fredo” in the Godfather. However for [...]

It’s a Family Thing

Webster’s offers this as a definition of family: an association of people who share common beliefs and/or activities. Seems to me that the publisher over at Webster’s could have saved some ink and simply published this: Family: being a Johnnie!
And for me this proposed definition would be just fine. Being a second generation Johnnie (My [...]

A Bye and a Thank you

Now I understand how fans of other MIAC Football programs feel at the mid point of the season. Any and all hope for post season play and success is long gone. All that remains is playing out the “string” for pride and gaining momentum for the off season. Not an enjoyable feeling but it happens [...]

Tommie/Johnnie 2010 edition. The entire buzz and build up to this Saturday’s renewal of the best college rivalry game in the Country has been that this is the BIG game of the year. But who exactly is it a BIG game for I ask?
It seems to me that many of those who consider themselves “experts” [...]

Johnnie-Auggie tilt 2009, a glorious Fall day in Minnesota, where all that should be on the agenda is being outside enjoying the weather while attending a College Football game!
Where was the Johnnie Nation on this glorious day? Thanks to the folks over at Auggie Tech we were required to spend some 3 ½ hours inside, [...]

2010 concordia game

After attending many Johnnie games, home and away over previous seasons, I have to ask. Has the Nation that is Unrivaled become complacent?  Have we come to expect the unexpected, are our standards so high that anything other than pure perfection is not acceptable?
Has John and the generations of Johnnie players spoiled this Nation to [...]

Plan, practice, orchestrate and strategize.  All words that describe the weekly preparation of a Football Team as they ready themselves  for each Saturday. And in the end you play the game to win, nothing less. However, I think that playing the game to win, with honor and dignity, far outweigh simply doing whatever it takes to win. The end does not justify the means!

We call it HOME

The 56321, Collegeville, SJU, School, the “Ville”, Harvard behind the pines, the Holy Land, and the greatest place on earth. These are just some of the titles that the Nation that is Unrivaled hangs on those beloved acres of land in Stearns County- where all of us spent the best four years of our lives. But in the end, for each and every Johnnie, it has always been and always will be HOME!
