For those who have never experienced a Johnnie football game in Collegeville, it is hard to describe the sights, sounds and feelings one gets out there. Upon taking my seat in the Finsleft Luxury Skybox with my special guests, the sounds of the St. John’s Men’s Chorus called me up out of my chair and the goosebumps came on. The wave of SJU players swarmed out of the Palaestra to the sidelines, and shortly thereafter, the Color Guard began their march from the south end zone to mid-field to absolute silence from the crowd of thousands. As the chorus again began to sing our national anthem, there were more goosebumps when, about halfway through, the abbey bells began to ring across the sun-drenched setting. I don’t know where else you can experience something quite like this.
The game was the icing on the cake, as we were treated to as exciting a contest as I can recall watching. It was a thriller from start to finish. Simply, college football at its finest.
Big kudos to the offensive line for their impressive play. It’s great to watch a running game being able to pound out yardage like they did on Saturday.
Won’t be able to make the tilt in Moorhead this weekend, unfortunately. But it has all the makings of another great MIAC matchup. Safe travels to all who make the trip!
GO JOHNNIES!
