After three weeks of offensive performance anxiety, it was gratifying to finally find a remedy for what was ailing the Johnnies. Quarterback Jordan Hansel stood tall for St. John’s with a decisive homecoming victory over Gustavus. Hansel showed no signs of projectile dysfunction, with 283 yards passing, 3 for TD’s, plus one rushing TD. It really is all about scoring.
The Johnnie D was tough as ever, and the offensive line looked much better than the previous week against an outstanding Concordia defense. They will need to build on this and continue to improve, as the MIAC competition looks to be tough each week. It was encouraging to see a fledgling rushing attack, with SJU finally mining its deep roster, giving touches to backs like Blaser and Ryan, to take nothing away from a steady performance by Schnobrich.
It should be an interesting matchup on Saturday against the Royals, who have stumbled like late-night dancers at a wedding in their first two MIAC match-ups. They will be thirsty for a victory, but the Johnnies will need to keep them reeling with continued defensive pressure, plus a steady and balanced offensive attack.
Score early and often. Go Johnnies!
