The MIAC football schedule will finally begin Saturday as the Cobbers of Concordia come to Collegeville. The Cobbs are excited to show off their new retro (is that an oxymoron?) uniform colors. Perhaps they should stick with what they had if their 2008 opener is any indication. For the first time in over 80 years, Concordia did not open their season against cross-town MSU Moorhead. Traveling west to Salem, Oregon, the Cobbers got thumped by Willamette, 35-21. I’d say September 6th will be the Cobbs’ only trip to a town called “Salem” this year. They’ve put up points so far against weaker teams, but they should have a tough time against the Johnnies, who are fundamentally strong. By that I mean the players, who are the backbone of the team, who are strong. And I’m not trying to put any lipstick on the pigskin here.
Look for Ritz’s preview of the game to follow.
