Late October weather finally found its way to Clemens Stadium this past Saturday with temperatures dipping into the 40’s and a quickly disappearing afternoon sun fading west well before half time. Left were those familiar fall shadows engulfing the home half of the sideline and the pleasant knowledge the 2007 season is just getting started. While the looming football temperatures of November will arrive later this week, AK-11 continues to blaze his way through the Collegeville record book and establish his own formula for Johnnie Victory.
On a day when most took for granted a victory against an overlooked team from Cretin Avenue, anticipating a mauling courtesy of Outland Trophy Candidate Nick Gunderson and All- American Candidate Mike Schumacher, the AK-11 led offense burned the UST secondary for 332 yards and 4 touchdown passes. The St. Thomas offense led by QB David Sauer set their own wildfire amassing more yards and points than had been amassed since a cold, snowy and lopsided Johnnie loss to the UWW Warhawks two seasons ago.
Our custom in late fall is to count on defensive coordinators Jerry Haugen and Gary Fasching to once again confuse large opposing offensive lineman with undersized players like starting defensive tackle Joe Luke, Alexandria, MN. Speed and quickness in the defensive front and enough power in the line backing crew to act as high profile poachers. The resulting mayhem created on defense was always enough to keep the score low and victory within grasp.
Alex Kofoed however continues to develop his own victory formula to ensure a deep playoff run through the sometimes pretending teams of the IIAC, MWC, NWC and the SCIAC.
One grumbling fan walking in the now shaded and still air of the St. John’s concession area complained “We’re not going to beat Bethel playing like this!” On the contrary, there’s a new approved formula in Collegeville, a formula that’s been brewing for four years and ready for official release. Operating from his new football stance five yards behind senior center and roommate Andrew Salvato, Alex Kofoed is using the shotgun as an important ingredient to locate streaking wide receivers Brian Weber and newfound target Josh Overman, Albany, MN.
Producing 51 points in a four quarter performance and enough passing yards to rank among the 18 all-time NCAA best quarterbacks for career yards, AK-11 is constructing his own Collegeville book for Johnnie success. A book authored to bring a new twist to Johnnie post season play.
