Here it is folks, following a season full of extreme anticipation with crucial matches vs. Concordia and St. Olaf and insipid predictability vs. The Carleton Knights and The UW River Falls Falcons, it’s the weekend all fans of the “Mother Church” have been waiting for! Not only are the Jay’s in the midst of an eight game winning streak by virtue of a sound victory over Hamline U, its time once again for men, women and children to head west on I-94 and back home! Following two successful years on the Cretin Avenue campus the Johnnie/Tommie tilt moves its caravan back to the rightful staging ground in Collegeville. Believe it or not the Johnnies are heading into week number nine with only UST and Bethel University remaining on the calendar.
Without question the 2007 version of this Collegeville wrecking crew has been as impressive as it has been inconsistent, at least from the perspective of this, The Johnnie Nation. At 8-0 what remains of the ’07 season can better be called “belly stretch right”….. right into Saturday’s rivalry game vs UST and right into the November arms of the Baptist crusaders in Arden Hills.
This week however marks another pivotal notch in the Johnnie belt as players, coaches and fans ready themselves for a deep dive into the NCAA DIII playoffs. A deep dive that will first begin with coach Gagliardi, Fasching, Haugen and Mader leading Brodmerkel, Gamache, Dimond, Salvato, Luke, Shockman, Shumacher, Cloeter and Boegel to another Perfect Season!
Stiftungsfestivites: The evolution of Stiftungsfestivities continues to expand as scores of CSB/SJU alumni and friends find their way to the Engel Science Center to share in Mike Fahey’s barbecue bandwagon. SJU/CSB Alumni festivities at the O’Shaughnessy Stadium site have narrowly been the wildest affairs to date the past two seasons.
Come SJU/UST fans and break away from the entrenched routine that has kept you from a tailgate awakening well beyond your Stearns county and Snelling Avenue myopia. The party features Fins’ tropical treats, Natural Aimee’s deviled eggs, Veek’s wild rice brats and Tom and Carol Arth’s chili! Bring a culinary delight of your liking to share with new friends and experience a Stiftungsfestivities “first” with ’87 grad Mark Bingham providing the music.
Family Weekend: Treat yourself to a pre-Stify event with a run/walk through the St. John’s woods beginning at 9:00am Saturday morning. In true Benedictine style there’s also an Oktoberfest celebration on the CSB campus and an SJU Chili feed. For all the fun fall details go to “SJU”!
