Let The 2008 Games Begin!

Ok, maybe the phrase “Let The Games Begin” is a bit overused however in an Olympic year and with Johnnie Football Camp in full swing it’s as good as anything.
Just as the Johnnies began practice at 9:30am on Friday morning another sign of the upcoming season is the crew from JohnnieFootball.com gathering at Champps in […]

Finding renewed life after a first round victory over the Redlands Bulldogs The Johnnie Footballers were now set to continue their victory march down I35 to Pella, Iowa.  As a post Thanksgiving Day treat the Central College Dutch were next on the schedule. The Dutch themselves were fresh off an undefeated season and a first […]

Chase Pollack hauls in a TD…that wasn’t.
Inspiration in the form of Jimmy “Swagger” and his wide open offensive attack made a long awaited return to Clemens Stadium Saturday afternoon.  Just when it appeared offensive coordinator Jimmy Gagliardi was contemplating a return to the Power I, the J’s rolled out their more familiar forward passing attack […]

Loop back nearly 12 months and a “Ground Hog” like day reappears on the Collegeville horizon and it’s a bout of Gagliardi “déjà vu” all over again.  Heck, when you’ve been the Football Sage at SJU for 55 seasons there’s a good chance things are bound to get a little quirky.
In 2006 the Johnnie season […]

Late October weather finally found its way to Clemens Stadium this past Saturday with temperatures dipping into the 40’s and a quickly disappearing afternoon sun fading west well before half time. Left were those familiar fall shadows engulfing the home half of the sideline and the pleasant knowledge the 2007 season is just getting started.  While […]

Here it is folks, following a season full of extreme anticipation with crucial matches vs. Concordia and St. Olaf and insipid predictability vs. The Carleton Knights and The UW River Falls Falcons, it’s the weekend all fans of the “Mother Church” have been waiting for!  Not only are the Jay’s in the midst of an eight game winning streak by virtue of a sound victory over Hamline U, its time once again for men, women and children to head west on I-94 and back home! Following two successful years on the Cretin Avenue campus the Johnnie/Tommie tilt moves its caravan back to the rightful staging ground in Collegeville.  Believe it or not the Johnnies are heading into week number nine with only UST and Bethel University remaining on the calendar.

In what could have become a glaring blemish on a mostly perfect 2007 Johnnie football season ended spectacularly with wide receiver Chace Pollock’s leaping 4th down catch and conversion inside the Carleton Knights 10 yard line.  With St. John’s behind 7 to 3 and only 56 seconds left on the clock senior running back Mike Patnode continued […]

Even the “Master” himself was a bit amazed at the proficiency his senior quarterback Alex “AK-11” Kofoed demonstrated in surgically slicing and dicing The Concordia College defense for 303 air yards in only 3 quarters of play.  “AK-11” simply dazzled a blazing day crowd at Clemens Stadium, recorded at 9,951, by first lofting and lobbing […]

Like a battle ship resting its cannons before another barrage of ordinance launched on its already weary opponent, Nick Gunderson rested his own guns walking back through the Auggie line of scrimmage to the waiting bunker of his Johnnie huddle.  Repeatedly penetrating and moving between the Augsburg enemy line this past Saturday afternoon “Captain” Nick, […]
