120 losses and 13 undefeated regular seasons in John Gagliardi’s 57 years coaching Johnnie football.  This past weekend’s loss opened up a wound that had yet to heal from the 2002 OT loss at Eau Claire.  No, the season is not over.  No, the Johnnies [...]

Well, here we go! After five straight win-or-else games in MIAC play, the Johnnies have reached the ultimate win-or-else portion of the season: the NCAA D-III Playoffs. Up first: only the defending national champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks. Piece o’ cake, right? Yeah…no.

Twenty-five times the St. John’s Johnnies and Carleton Knights have met on the football field and twenty-five times the Johnnies have come out the victor. This year may be different, though. The Knights have rarely had such high hopes entering a showdown with the Johnnies–and have never had such a big stage.

Well fans, after last week’s bye, there are only two games left and the MIAC is as tight a race as it’s ever been. Simply put, the Johnnies need to win both and let everything else take care of itself. That’s it: just Augsburg this week and Carleton next — but most importantly, Augsburg this week.

After pulling out what can only be described as a “miracle victory” (or, rather, an entirely predictable instance of St. Thomas falling on its face) last week in St. Paul, the Johnnies look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive in Northfield. The Oles are in the midst of a disappointing season themselves, so tensions [...]

Following their biggest blowout of the season, 40-7 over the Hamline Pipers, the St. John’s Johnnies travel to St. Paul to take on their biggest rival, the St. Thomas Tommies. It’s been a decade since the Tommies toppled the Johnnies on the gridiron, but for the first time in ages the two-loss Johnnies are [...]

So last week didn’t turn out so well for the Johnnies or the predictors. We all know that Hamline is no Bethel, and Collegeville is no Arden Hills. Things should go much better this week; let’s see if the staff of JohnnieFootball.com feels that way.

When the St. John’s Johnnies and Bethel Royals face off this weekend in Arden Hills, the home team will be trying to make history: it’s been over twenty years since the Johnnies have lost to the same school in three straight seasons (St. Olaf, 1984-86). The significance of this weekend’s contest is even more amazing [...]

Well, here we are: Homecoming. After a really rough last week, the Johnnies — and our prognosticators — look to rebound this week. Will the team come out firing like several of these predictions certainly will? Or will the hangover get the best of both? Let’s find out.

“You can throw the records out the window.” It’s the cliché that always springs to mind when a sports rivalry is mentioned. And, at least when the St. John’s Johnnies and Concoridia Cobbers meet on the football field, it often holds true.
Historically, the Cobbers have played the Johnnies as tough as any MIAC foe, compiling [...]
