In this, the most unlikeliest of seasons, it is probably fitting that St. John’s would draw as its 1st round playoff opponent the defending national champions from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. When you’re the one who authored the book on Johnnie Football it only makes sense to occasionally reflect on the pages and volumes that comprise a record setting sixty year career. With offensive woes minimizing an otherwise potent football team it was time to consider giving back the play calling ability to the players.

I recently had the chance to catch up with a couple of the biggest college football fans in the country.  Keith and Phil Arnold, from RoadtoGameday.com, were kind enough to spend some time with Johnniefootball.com.  Many thanks to the Arnold Bros. and good luck to their Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders in the State Semifinals this weekend.

Today’s Monday morning report is going to be a bit abbreviated and slightly late following a weekend away from Collegeville closing up the family cabin. With no internet available and only snails pace dial-up service, the writer was forced to abate a moderate level of Johnnie anxiety via the “live stats” link on the GoJohnnies.com website.

Grandpa’s been gone for 20 years now, but as I make my way in life, one of his sayings will frequently pop into my mind. As I’ve watched the St. John’s football team this season, I can’t help but be reminded of one of those sayings:

Will John Gagliardi Build For The Future Or Play For Today?
If you’ve been paying any attention to the news, local or national, you’ve witnessed a vast array of developments including financial foreclosures, the race to the presidential “throne” and even local philanthropists succumbing to greed. Whether you’re suddenly concerned about discovering your on-line bank account [...]

After three weeks of offensive performance anxiety, it was gratifying to finally find a remedy for what was ailing the Johnnies. Quarterback Jordan Hansel stood tall for St. John’s with a decisive homecoming victory over Gustavus. Hansel showed no signs of projectile dysfunction, with 283 yards passing, 3 for TD’s, plus one rushing TD. It really is all about scoring.

Who would have thought as the lengthy winter months waned on with a few precious days in spring and an ample June, July and August, that after all that time Coach John Gagliardi would still be looking for his starting quarterback? The panorama of possibilities the Johnnies have considered the past 3 weeks has [...]
