Well, here we go! After five straight win-or-else games in MIAC play, the Johnnies have reached the ultimate win-or-else portion of the season: the NCAA D-III Playoffs. Up first: only the defending national champion UW-Whitewater Warhawks. Piece o’ cake, right? Yeah…no.
This year marks the third visit to Whitewater, WI for the traveling Stiftungsfestivities. For those who have attended past years, the pre-game was far more enjoyable than the actual game itself. Wisconsinites pride themselves on gratuitous beer-drinking and grilled meat-eating so tailgating comes naturally to them. Games at UWW are no exception.

The 2008 D-III Playoff bracket will be announced on Sunday, November 16 at approximately 3:00 Eastern. Twenty-five times the St. John’s Johnnies and Carleton Knights have met on the football field and twenty-five times the Johnnies have come out the victor. This year may be different, though. The Knights have rarely had such high hopes entering a showdown with the Johnnies–and have never had such a big stage.
Just as we did for the trip to Northfield two weeks ago, here is the information for the away-from-Collegeville tailgate. Unlike the ‘Festivities for St. Olaf, however, this week’s celebration will take the chilly weather into account and be indoors. Please read on for details, lest you miss out on a chance to party before the biggest game of the year.

Well fans, after last week’s bye, there are only two games left and the MIAC is as tight a race as it’s ever been. Simply put, the Johnnies need to win both and let everything else take care of itself. That’s it: just Augsburg this week and Carleton next — but most importantly, Augsburg this week.
We will be having the Stiftungsfestivities tailgate party this Saturday when Auggie Tech comes to Collegeville. Auggie fans, you are more than welcome to join us. We are located in the parking lot just above the scoreboard end of the field. We usually get going around 10:00 a.m., though a few of us are there much earlier.

After pulling out what can only be described as a “miracle victory” (or, rather, an entirely predictable instance of St. Thomas falling on its face) last week in St. Paul, the Johnnies look to keep their slim playoff hopes alive in Northfield. The Oles are in the midst of a disappointing season themselves, so tensions [...]
