Happy Thanksgiving. I’m not only trying to get this out on time, but I’m surprising myself by even getting out a UUN at all. It’s not that I am totally bummed by our upset loss to Coe College last Saturday, though I’m sure not happy about it. No, I’ve just got things to do.

It took nearly 36 hours and lots of guts, perhaps the same guts Joe B. Quarterback lost early in the afternoon Saturday to even have the nerve to glance at the St. Cloud Times website and review of the Johnnies first round playoff game.  As I gradually moved closer to my desk, instinctively my computer mouse finally found [...]

We have all seen the Bud Light commercials where they replay the same scene of a customer trying to get the waiter’s attention.  The first time by the waiter completely ignores the customer.  The second time by the customer speaks a little louder but still gets ignored.  “Too Light” pops up onto the screen.  The third time by the customer sticks out her foot and trips the waiter sending him through a window.  “Too Heavy” pops up onto the screen.  The main point of the ad is to say Bud Light is not too heavy, not too light, it is just right.

When the playoffs roll around, you have to be playing your best football of the season if you want to advance to the next week. With each victory comes the reward of playing a tougher opponent the following week. Mistakes are magnified in the playoffs and having an interception or a fumble recovery returned for [...]

St. John’s has earned the #1 seed in the West Region, but unlike the tournament’s other top seeds, their lofty perch doesn’t offer them a smooth path deep into the playoffs. In fact, the West Region is loaded with perennial football powers. The Central Dutch won their 30th IIAC title en route to [...]

SJU’s Unofficial Underground hits new low for length: read it anyway — #12

For those who don’t know, SJU defeated Carleton College (and former Johnny great Kurt Ramler ‘97 who coaches them) 41-14, turning in another undefeated season. That may sound like a run-away, but the first half was pretty even. Scared a few of us. More game info is found below — way below. It’s a long issue.

Ahhhhhh…the smell of playoff football has returned to Collegeville!  That is correct; I did say playoff football has RETURNED.  Do I dare remind everyone of the odd and abnormal season of last year?  The 8-2 regular season record, four home games in September, and only two home games in October/November do not constitute NORMAL in Collegeville.  Fear not my fellow Johnnie fans, things have returned to normal here in the 56321.

The 2009 NCAA Division III football playoffs are upon us. On Sunday around 2:10pm the brackets were revealed on ESPNEWS. The committee has decided NOT to place seedings on teams this year, however, one can reasonably surmise that the West Region Bracket looks like this.
