The Time for Redemption is Now…

Let’s cut to the chase.  Bethel has beaten the Johnnies 3 years in a row.  The last 2 years in Arden Hills and in 2006 their first win ever in Collegeville.  The mystique is gone.  The Royals have developed a gameplan that is effective, and quite simply, works against SJU.  This is what great rivalries [...]

It’s been a little bit of time since I was able to post last but last week was terrible for me. I had just so much to do and it all seemed to come down at once. I know we’ve all been there. Still this is a new week and, of course, it doesn’t need to be said that it’s Homecoming and Bethel week.

On September 26, 1953 a young John Gagliardi faced off against the powerhouse of the MIAC, the Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties, in his first season as the head coach of the Johnnies and prevailed by a score of 21-7. Gagliardi was facing the legendary head coach of Gustavus, Lloyd Hollingsworth, in what would become a [...]

The Road Warriors!

Unlike the first month of the 2008 season that saw our Johnnies and the Nation blessed with four straight home games at the Natural Bowl, the 2009 Johnnies have been required to embrace a Road Warrior mentality for three of the first four games in the 2009 campaign!

SJU Underground sez ‘booga-booga’ to the Gusties — #4

It was a relief to (a) leave Moorhead with a 31-19 win last Saturday, and (b) leave looking pretty darn good after a shaky first half. For yet another week our defense has looked somewhat porous, at least before half time where we experienced not one but TWO [2!!] deus ex machinas in the earthly form of Kyle Schroeder

Week 4: St. Peter and Patrick’s

Week 4 against Gustavus has the makings for a letdown game for the Johnnies.  They come off a long road trip to Moorhead that was successful, but did NOT shorten the injury report for St. John’s.  This would be an easy game to overlook when you can see a potentially huge Homecoming game with Bethel [...]

Okay, time to start thinking about Saturday in St. Peter.  The pre-game gathering will be at Patrick’s Bar in downtown St. Peter.  TDT will be there early signing autographs, taking photos, etc.  Sorry only 1 per person.  This joint has terrific food/beverage and is an excellent alternative to the anti-tailgating policies which have been established on-campus [...]

A hot, dry and windy afternoon greeted the 6,000+ fans at Jake Christiansen Stadium Saturday as the Cobbers faced the undefeated Johnnies. It was family day at Concordia, and that contributed to the excellent crowd. The fans were confident that their very capable team could cobble up another victory over the Johnnies; maybe repeating last years 9-6 win at Clemens Stadium.
