Keeping with the tradition of Bethel and St. Thomas, here is the information for this week’s away-from-Collegeville tailgate. Unlike the previous two, however, this will not be on campus. Please read the following invitation from Jeff Hanson of the Owatonna SJU Alumni Chapter for details.

The knuckle bumping, hand holding, fanny slapping first year coach of St. Thomas was served his first dose of “Johnnie Magic”.
Welcome to the MIAC Glen Caruso.

When the St. Thomas athletic department conducted a nationwide search for a coach to take their struggling football program in a new direction, they didn’t have to look very far. In January the Tommies introduced the former head coach of neighboring Macalester, Glen Caruso, to the Tommie faithful. Optimism was running high around St. Thomas, [...]

Following their biggest blowout of the season, 40-7 over the Hamline Pipers, the St. John’s Johnnies travel to St. Paul to take on their biggest rival, the St. Thomas Tommies. It’s been a decade since the Tommies toppled the Johnnies on the gridiron, but for the first time in ages the two-loss Johnnies are [...]

Does your 11 year old think the letters UST stand for something entirely different than the University of St. Thomas? Is the color Purple forbidden in your [...]

Even though the St. Thomas Tommies have dropped the last 10 meetings with their arch rival, the St. John’s Johnnies, they have to feel pretty confident about their chances when the teams meet for the 77th time this weekend in St. Paul. The Johnnies, uncharacteristically, have already been saddled with two losses this season. Meanwhile, down on Summit Ave., new head coach Glenn Caruso has the Tommies playing as well as they have in recent memory.

The Stiftungsfestivities will be taking on a slightly different format as the Johnnies travel to hated St. Thomas on Saturday. The rally will take place in the northwest corner of the O’Shaughnessy Stadium
Parking Lot bordering Cretin Avenue. As always, please bring a culinary delight to share. That’s especially important this week, as Johnnie Red will be watching big college football elsewhere. Grillers (and meat!) will be needed.

While the Johnnies have struggled at times this year, it is important to remember that SJU has lost two games by two plays it failed to make…and as such, perhaps the hope of its 30th MIAC title isn’t over for the Jays. So let’s take a look at the MIAC race.

Today’s Monday morning report is going to be a bit abbreviated and slightly late following a weekend away from Collegeville closing up the family cabin. With no internet available and only snails pace dial-up service, the writer was forced to abate a moderate level of Johnnie anxiety via the “live stats” link on the GoJohnnies.com website.
