Are you the guy or gal whose office is a shrine to the Johnnies? Instead of pictures of Tarkenton, Eller, Page and Foreman, do you have Gagliardi, Norman, Schmitz, Bell, Hood, McCambridge, and Elliott on your walls? Do you grab the free posters at the games on Saturday and have them on a wall in your house or office by Monday morning? Is your spouse constantly nagging you to “throw some of that Saint John’s crap out?” (BLASPHEMY!) Are you the guy or gal at the office that was put on suicide watch last year after the Bethel game?

Who would have thought as the lengthy winter months waned on with a few precious days in spring and an ample June, July and August, that after all that time Coach John Gagliardi would still be looking for his starting quarterback? The panorama of possibilities the Johnnies have considered the past 3 weeks has [...]

The Johnnies opened the MIAC regular season Saturday at Clemens Stadium with a heartbreaking loss to the Concordia Cobbers 9-6. The game was John Gagliardi’s 589th college game coached, surpassing former Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson for yet another statistical record in his 60-year career as a college coach. Somehow I think John would take [...]

“You can throw the records out the window.” It’s the cliché that always springs to mind when a sports rivalry is mentioned. And, at least when the St. John’s Johnnies and Concoridia Cobbers meet on the football field, it often holds true.
Historically, the Cobbers have played the Johnnies as tough as any MIAC foe, compiling [...]

The following article and endorsements are those of “Johnnie Tats”…. and just “Johnnie Tats!”
Johnnie Nation, we’ve had two games (and both at our beloved Collegeville) to date in the 2008 season. And while the first game was indeed the first one of the season against a team from a far away land (Texas), last weeks [...]

With many preseason questions still unanswered and the look of a team still in need of an identity, the Johnnies begin their MIAC Conference schedule tomorrow against our Lutefisk slurping, lefse devouring friends from the Northeast—The Concordia Cobbers.

The MIAC football schedule will finally begin Saturday as the Cobbers of Concordia come to Collegeville. The Cobbs are excited to show off their new retro (is that an oxymoron?) uniform colors.  Perhaps they should stick with what they had if their 2008 opener is any indication. For the first time in over 80 years, [...]

In last week’s column, I mentioned that the sun always shines on Johnnie Football. Um, yeah… It’s apparent that Mother Nature is not a regular reader of JohnnieFootball.com.
Fortunately, the football gods were on the Johnnies’ side on Saturday. In a game that was controlled by St. John’s at the line [...]

Michael Crees entered Saturday’s game as the SJU starter after beginning the season third in line behind junior Jordan Hansel and fan favorite Joe Boyle. Crees not only took advantage of last week’s opportunity to audition for the starting QB position but also grabbed last year’s starter Alex Kofoed’s jersey. Number eleven and his magical rise to the top of the quarterback competition is the kind of slight handed imagination required to leap over this season’s probable starters.
