PB&J: Purebred Johnnie

I am a Senior at St. John’s right now majoring in Accounting. I also am a manager at the coffee shop on St. John’s campus, Johnnie Java. My life has been filled with Johnnie pride. I was not one of the many scrambling to find a college when it came to Junior/Senior year of High School. Instead, I filled out one application to one school, St. John’s University located in Collegeville, MN 56321. To me, it was a no brainer as 56321 had been my home away from home for my whole life. To my family, it was the only option as everyone else had chosen CSB/SJU. I am a 3rd generation Johnnie with my Grandfather starting at SJU after World War II. Starting with my Grandpa and moving to around 10 aunts/uncles attending CSB/SJU. Even deeper, both of my parents and all three of my siblings went to CSB/SJU. The family tradition is rich and I know I am not the only one.

My passion for Johnnie football has been strong since the fall of 1998 when I started attending home/away games regularly. At first it was an excuse to see my sister who had just started at CSB. It took only a few minutes for my mindset to change. Nothing is more beautiful than a Saturday afternoon game in mid-October down in the bowl. Memories of opposing teams kicking off out-of-bounds just to avoid Blake Elliot are still strong in my head. Or the perfect season standing in my living room jumping up and down as the Johnnies dive for the goal at the end of the first half against Mount Union. Altogether there are two things that I am most proud of in my time as a die-hard Johnnie fan: 1) the perfect season and seeing Gagliardi’s 409, 2) never seeing a Tommie victory over the Johnnies. Yes that’s right, I have yet to see the Johnnie lose to the ugly purple!
